Does Your Neck Actually Touch Your Pillow?
Often, less than people assume. That gap is one of the things I keep looking at.

Short answer
Sometimes yes, often only partly. A pillow can hold the head while leaving the neck largely unsupported.
Why it matters to me
If the neck is not in contact, the pillow is supporting a head rather than supporting a person.
